Responsibilities: Responds as a team member of fire and emergency crew to save lives, provide first aid, preserve property, the environment, and mission functions, and mitigate hazards during fires, medical emergencies, hazmat incidents, personnel rescues, natural disasters, aircraft incidents, and other emergency events. Performs inspections, operations, testing and first echelon maintenance to ensure readiness and serviceability of all apparatus, equipment, property, and personal protective equipment assigned. Conducts fire ground tasks and functions in addition to station duties. Drive fire apparatus and operate pumps, utilize power and manual tools and equipment. Receive alarms, calls, and dispatch proper crews as Communications Center Operator. Attend all training, instruct classes as required. Participate in the DoD Firefighter Certification Program (FFCP) and physical fitness program. Conduct fire risk management surveys and company inspections. Provide fire safety training and education to the community. Respond to off-duty recalls and all other tasks/functions assigned. Abide by all local authority, company, and departmental policies, instructions, standards and regulations. Organize daily, weekly, monthly and annual facilities inspection schedules. Interpret fire codes, standards, and policies for submittal of mitigation recommendations. Perform other duties as assigned. As a direct report to the crew chief or designated fire officer, authority is given to apply industry standard and accepted trade practices to perform tasks required to execute and accomplish emergency incident objectives and directions. Has authority to stop activities that may pose imminent and unforeseen safety hazards or dangers to self or fellow team members. Position may include personnel supervision and technical advisor/consultant to supervisors.

Requirements: Two years experience as a paid-professional firefighter. Graduation from a recognized fire academy resulting in International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (ProBoard) certification as a Firefighter I and Hazmat Awareness and Operations. Fire Science degrees (AS or BS) may be substituted for experience and fire academy training if candidate possesses IFSAC or Pro Board Firefighter I and Hazmat Awareness & Operations certifications. Desire IFSAC or ProBoard Firefighter II, Aircraft Rescue Firefighter (ARFF), Driver/Operator, Hazmat Technician, and DoT First Responder (Advanced 1st Aid).

Per GS081 series, maximum age for entry in the Fire Protection Specialist field is 37 years and candidate must have a high school diploma or GED. Candidate must pass a thorough physical fitness exam IAW NFPA 1500, drug testing, and background investigation.

AC&R Technician III (Full Time/Unaccompanied)

Responsibilities: Perform duties and responsibilities of a Journeyman level mechanic with a strong background in HVAC and refrigeration equipment to include hands on experience in operating and troubleshooting industrial systems. Must be able to act with limited supervision. Must be physically able to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position that could include moderate amounts of lifting and bending. Must be able to communicate well both verbally and in the written English language. Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on packaged units, split coil systems, air compressors, pumps, air handlers, air cooled condensers, reciprocating chillers, 250 ton centrifugal and 190 ton rotary screw chillers, and various heat exchangers. Installation of mechanical systems to include piping and modifications to existing facilities cooling systems. Utilize blueprints technical manuals manufacturer’s files and some record keeping. Must be self motivated and able to work independently and able to supervise other mechanics as needed.  

Requirements: Must have 5 years experience as an air conditioner mechanic and valid state license. Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing in the English language. Requires High School Diploma or Equivalent, and EPA Universal Refrigeration Certification. Prefer completion of an apprentice or air conditioning program licenses, related training a plus.

Electrician IV (Full Time/ Unaccompanied)

Responsibilities: Under minimal supervision performs work of considerable difficulty in corrective and preventive maintenance on electrical work, troubleshooting electrical circuites, conduit work for new work orders, Utilizes blueprints, technical manuals, manufacturer’s files and some record keeping. Fire Inspector (Full Time/ Unaccompanied)

Responsibilities:
Independent of, or under minimal, supervision, performs fire risk management surveys in compliance with AR 420-1, DODI 6055.6, UFC, and NFPA standards. Inspects and maintains facilities to meet fire prevention standards. Tasks: Organize daily, weekly, monthly and annual facilities inspection schedules; Conducts fire risk management surveys (fire inspections) in all facilities so as to identify and correct any potential fire hazards; Maintain facilities inspection records; Prepares required reports noting discrepancies and recommending corrective measures and allowing for follow-up on corrective actions implemented; Inspects and tests hose reels, hose cabinets, and portable fire extinguishers to include hydrostatic testing of pressure cylinders; Assists in training subordinate and new-hire personnel; Assists in conducting evacuation/fire exit drills; Plans and conducts fire safety programs; Conduct fire safety training classes, briefings and presentations to include live fire extinguisher classes; Issue hot work permits and perform constructions site inspections; Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

Shall be a high school graduate or equivalent (either a GED or three years of work experience that demonstrates the ability to read, to write, to perform common mathematical tasks, and to comprehend written instructional documents in English); Two years of experience as a professional firefighter or fire inspector; Must have ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Shall have knowledge of fire codes and ability to interpret and apply statutory and regulatory standards; Shall have the ability to conduct fire inspections and fire safety programs; Must possess or be eligible to obtain a security clearance and/or pass a National Agency Test.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: DOD, IFSAC or ProBoard Fire Inspector I and Fire Inspector II certification; DOD, IFSAC or ProBoard HazMat Awareness certification; DOD, IFSAC or ProBoard Fire Instructor I certification; Supervisory/Superintendent responsibilities and interface with facility managers and general public. Electrician III (Full Time/ Unaccompanied)

 

Responsibilities:

General Description of Responsibilities:

A person filling this position will be assigned to one of two areas:

  • Overall electrical maintenance and repair in the power plant.
  • Switch gear watch standing and operations.

Area A:

The electrician III that performs general maintenance and repair in the power plant will perform tasks such as:

  • Under general supervision, assist other electricians in the performance of assigned
  • Perform mechanical & electrical disassembly and reassembly of electrical equipment.
  • Perform overhauls of/on various electrical equipment.
  • Pull wires & install conduit.
  • Select and use proper tools, equipment and materials to complete assigned tasks.
  • Interpret sketches, diagrams and drawings of electrical systems to trouble shoot and correct electrical problems.
  • Use meters and instruments to test electrical parts.
  • Test electrical components and sub-assemblies.
  • Use knowledge of AC/DC theory to trouble shoot systems.
  • Maintain records to reflect work accomplished.
  • Learns additional knowledge & skill of the trade to progress to the next higher level; Electrician IV.

Area B:

The switchgear operator is assigned the responsibility of regulating the operation of electrical generating units to meet power requirements by manipulation of remote switches on the control board. The operator performs tasks such as

  • Determines the number of generator units needed in operation by observing load indicators of by interpreting system operator’s orders. Notifies generating room (floor operator) of pending load changes and/or requirements.
  • Synchronizes newly started generating units with units in operation by adjusting controls.
  • Observes indicating instruments to determine when generator is operating in synchronism and exercising the paralleling switch to connect the generator output to the bus bar receiving electricity from various generators.
  • Disconnects generators from the bus bar to decrease power output or to remove a malfunctioning unit from the line up. Equalizes the load among remaining operating generators.
  • Keeps records of switching operations and regular readings of output generators to ensure proper/correct data is recorded.
  • Connects and disconnects feeders distributing power from plant to island loads.

 

Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. The applicant shall have had at least 3 years of experience working in a similar or larger power plant. The applicant must have Basic English language capability to use verbal and written forms of communication. The applicant must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations required on the job. The applicant shall have at least one year as an Electrician II, or other such training or experience as to meet or exceed the qualifications for this position. The applicant shall be able to interpret maintenance manuals, specifications and procedures; be able to select and use proper tools, equipment and materials and demonstrate initiative in learning the entire scope of work.

The applicant must follow all Lock Out/ Tag Out procedures and practice good safety habits at all times.

Electrician II (Full Time/ Unaccompanied)

 

Responsibilities:

Works closely with the electrician lead or other electricians to replace failed components, perform routine maintenance, and test electrical and instrumentation equipment in the power plant and/or distribution system. Acts as an electrical helper on more complex electrical or instrumentation issues. Will be required to learn plant operations and may be required to relieve plant operators. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision to complete routine electrical tasks.

  • Must be able to independently lift a minimum of 70 pounds.

Mechanic III Power Plant (Full Time/ Unaccompanied)

 

Responsibilities:A person filling this position will be assigned to one of two areas: either overall mechanical maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment within the power plant and salt water pump house or the power plant switchgear watch standing and operations.

Under the direction of the Mechanic Lead:

A. Adheres to all LO/TO procedures.

B. Stands watch on the on the Switchgear Controls as needed.

C. With minimal direction, performs repairs and adjustments to diesel engines up to 10,000 horsepower.

D. With minimal direction, disassembles, repairs and reassembles diesel engines and other related mechanical machinery and/or equipment

E. With minimal direction, performs predictive/preventive/corrective maintenances on diesel engines and related mechanical machinery and/or equipment, i.e., governors, controls, fuel & lube oil systems, heat exchangers, air compressors, and pumps.

F. With minimal direction, conducts inspections to insure proper operating conditions of diesel engines and related mechanical machinery and equipment.

G. With minimal direction, uses tests and diagnostic equipment to determine operating efficiency.

H. Reads/interprets blueprints and drawings.

I. Maintains records to reflect work accomplished.

J. Performs housekeeping duties as assigned

K. Instructs and trains others to become more knowledgeable and skillful in their respective trade/work.

L. Learns additional knowledge and skill of the trade at the next higher level: Mechanic IV

 

Specific Responsibilities:

A. Performs other duties as assigned.

B. Responsible for accurate accounting of time spent while working on specific work orders.

C. Must follow all specified safety procedures.

D. Has the authority to stop work if an unsafe condition is discovered.


WORK CONDITIONS:

Mechanic IV Kwaj Metal Shop (Full Time/ Unaccompanied)

 

Responsibilities:

Under limited supervision performs corrective and preventive maintenance on heavy industrial equipment, including pumps, piping, valves, air compressors, compressed air systems, hoisting and large air-handling equipment.

Utilizes blueprints, technical manuals, manufacturer’s files and some record keeping. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and be able to helpers as needed.

Fire Prevention Technician III (Full Time/ Unaccompanied)

Responsibilities: Under minimal supervision, performs inspections, testing, maintenance, & repairs of fire alarm and suppression systems. Must understand and promotes good safety practices at all times. Shall ensure that all Government Property assigned are secured and properly cared for during use in accordance with KRS Standard Practice Instructions pertaining to property management. Interprets blueprints, drawings, schematics, sketches and written or oral instructions to accomplish assigned work activities. Must understand and be able to construct, assemble, install, disconnect and remove all components, systems and equipment related to his/her trade/discipline. Regularly performs task of the work unit at a high skill level. Actively helps the problem solving process; helps motivate group members to achieve goals and standards and to continue to learn. As section lead, supervises work crews under his/her control effectively and efficiently minimizing project delays and cost overruns. Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and that the work unit schedules are adhered to. Sets the pace and plans out the daily work load for the section. Organizes and prioritizes work for the section to ensure Performance Work Statement requirements are met. Maintains records and statistics pertaining to the work and composes and submits reports as required. Orders and coordinates delivery of materials and equipment for completion of assigned task. Monitors usage of materials to ensure usage is consistent with scheduled work activities. Explains or demonstrates work methods, procedures and goals. Issues Hot Work permits as needed. Assists in design reviews provides appropriate recommendations and performs validation and acceptance inspections/testing of fire alarm and suppression systems. Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.


Requirements: Possess high school diploma or equivalent with at least five years of work experience at the journeyman level or equivalent. Required to have NICET or equivalent Fire Systems certification or trade journeyman’s license.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  1. Extensive knowledge of governmental ES&H standards, rules, and regulations and proficiency in applying them to the site.
  2. Demonstrate proficient knowledge in the OSHA Maritime Standards governing Shipyard Employment; Marine Terminals, Longshoring and Ship Repair.
  3. Knowledge and/or training must meet or exceed that of a “Shipyard Competent Person” maritime endorsement.
  4. Working knowledge of safe work practices and experience in conducting accident investigations, OSHA, DOT, DOD compliance, insurance audits, workers’ compensation, and project health surveys.
  5. Proficiency in conducting ES&H training programs.
  6. Must be able to obtain and retain a United States Army Kwajalein Atoll driver’s license.

Preferred:

  1. Technical knowledge of and experience in the industrial hygiene, and environmental compliance functions.
  2. Proficiency in software applications.
  3. Knowledge of medical first aid procedures.
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Bachelors Degree in ES&H/Management or related science/engineering area preferred; and/or equivalent experience/training in addition to experience leading to the thorough understanding of the knowledge described above. CSP or CIH is preferred.

 

You and authorized dependents, if any, traveling to Kwajalein are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to departure. You and your dependents must maintain a current passport during your stay on the island.

Licensed Mariner I - 200T Mate (Full-Time/Unaccompanied)

***This position is located in the Marshall Islands. You must be willing to relocate.***

Responsibilities: Assists in the operation and maintenance of assigned U.S. Army vessel, normally a Light Tug (LT). May be assigned as relief captain on LCM’s or catamarans. Most transits are near coastal within Kwajalein Atoll waters but some are open ocean voyages. Supervises a deck crew of approximately three people, normally all of whom are indigenous employees. Reports directly to the assigned vessel captain for orders, guidance, training and duties. Performs assigned tasks/efforts to include government directed work schemes under general direction.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Safely directs and maintains all deck-associated equipment and activities on the assigned vessel including all deck functions and missions.
  2. When on watch operates the vessel in a safe manner with due regard to navigation rules and safe navigation.
  3. Assists Captain in determining parts, supplies, and material requirements for job accomplishment.
  4. Responsible for the maintenance and condition of all shipboard safety equipment, fire fighting equipment and life saving equipment.
  5. Conducts on-the-job training of deck personal, as required.
  6. Assists in ensuring an effective preventive maintenance program is operating in conjunction with the Captain and Chief Engineer.
  7. Assists in the on and offloading of cargo and provisions, not only on a tug boat but also any barges assigned.
  8. Assists the Captain in ensuring all required logs and administrative items are properly maintained.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory

  1. Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. U.S. Coast Guard 200T Mate’s license with all applicable STCW endorsements for international waters for 200T vessel.

Preferred

  1. U.S. Coast Guard 200T Master’s license with all applicable STCW endorsements for international waters for 200T vessel.
  2. Towing endorsement
  3. Tankerman PIC
  4. Character and background to obtain a security clearance.
