Software Engineer III, Real-time (Full Time /Unaccompanied)

HR-032073

Location: Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands:

Responsibilities: As a Software Engineer supporting the Radar Open System Architecture (ROSA) Real Time Program ( RTP) and Subsystem software, the employee will be working with a small team integrating new features and fixing software related problems in the RTS operational mission environment. The following is a brief description of the systems, control, and data flow integral to the RTS operational mission environment for which the employee will be responsible:

The Reagan Test Site (RTS) radar systems supported by the ROSA software are ALCOR, ALTAIR, MMW, TRADEX, and two MPS-36s. Each of these radars consists of a main host computer required to support the Real Time Program ( RTP), a number of subsystems containing the control for the antenna, a timing system, receivers, transmitter(s), pulse compression system, the high speed disk recording system and display & button control console necessary for operations. The RTP controls the subsystems by issuing a control message that is sent to the subsystems on a major cycle basis. The frequency of this message varies from 20 Hz to 100 Hz depending on the radar. The subsystems use this message to control the Pulse Repetition Interval (PRI) until the next message is received. PRI data received by the radar eventually is combined with auxiliary data by the Digital Pulse Compression System (DPCS) and sent to the host computer running the RTP. This data is processed and recorded to the Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) disks after one or more PRIs are received. The ROSA RTPs also interface to the Kwajalein Space Surveillance Center (KSSC), the Kwajalein Mission Control Center (KMCC), and the Radiation Monitoring (RADMON) system. These systems are currently going through upgrades that may require RTP modifications. The employee will learn radar operations on various RTS radars, (via OJT), and be an operator on a variety of complex re-entry, interceptor, and space related missions.

Status: This full-time position has a two year minimum commitment with accompanied or unaccompanied status.

Security Clearance: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Required: Requirements for this position will include a BS in Computer Science or closely related field and a minimum of 5 to 8 years of wide in-depth technical experience. Senior level software development skills with various languages are required. Technologies used in the RTS software environment, and where expertise is expected from the employee, include: UNIX and RedHat LINUX, JAVA, C, C++, Perl, and Fortran, Object Oriented (OO) software design, MySQL and Oracle databases, & MATLAB. The employee will possess and apply a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures related to the above technologies and use that knowledge to complete moderately complex assignments with respect to the ROSA RTP and Subsystem software.

Desired: A MS level degree in Computer Science or closely related field may be desirable.

You and authorized dependents, if any, traveling to Kwajalein are required to have a valid passport in your possession prior to departure. You and your dependents must maintain a current passport during your stay on the island.
