Family Practitioner/Surgeon (Full Time/Accompanied)

 

Responsibilities:

Directly reports to the Chief Medical Officer with additional administrative accountability to the Hospital Administrator. Provides healthcare services to patients presenting to the hospital (in- and outpatient) for family practice services. Also serves as backup to staff general surgeon in providing basic general surgery/trauma services for ages pediatric to geriatric.

 

MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides services to inpatients and outpatients including diagnostic evaluation, patient treatment, recovery, and health maintenance program based on current accepted practices encompassed by Family Practice medicine.
  • Is available to assist staff general surgeon in providing outpatient and inpatient surgical care. Is capable of providing basic general surgery services in the absence of the general surgeon. Such services shall include emergency abdominal surgical procedures that cannot be transferred to other facilities in a timely manner, wound care, and basic surgical management of acute trauma.
  • Provides additional primary care services including physical examinations, writing a treatment plan, and keeping progress notes covering diagnostic evaluation for care of outpatients and inpatients.
  • Provides emergency medical services including on-call coverage on a rotating basis with other physicians and responds in timely and courteous manner.
  • Operates under the general guidelines of treatment policies and procedures to include intervention protocols and after care plans.
  • Submits, in a timely manner, information as appropriate to update the plan of care for the patient, coordinate other services, maintenance of complete patient chart and billing of services provided.
  • Works cooperatively with peers and supportive staff to contribute to overall productivity and quality of the care of the team.
  • Maintains all necessary licensure to qualify for active medical staff privileges and abides by Kwajalein Hospital bylaws, policies, and procedures as well as USAKA rules and regulations.
  • Assists CMO and Administrator through recommendations for budgetary planning and development of policies and procedures as relates to area s of expertise.
  • Prepares and presents information to co-workers after attending special programs and workshops as appropriate.
  • Assumes other responsibilities and duties as assigned by CMO.

 

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Current experience in primary care as well as basic abdominal and general surgical procedures are required. Experience and expertise in endoscopy and cesareans are desirable.
  • Integrates patient management - examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis and intervention – in a manner designed to optimize outcomes.
  • Documentation and oral communication are concise, pertinent and meets the professions and departments documentation standards; documentation is timely, legible, and meets standards of completeness and clinical relevance.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years recent experience in family practice that includes some basic general surgery. Proficiency in GI endoscopy and experience in performing cesareans and other gynecologic procedures is desirable.
  • Preferable/desirable to have experience in any of the following: emergency care medicine, hyperbaric medicine, aviation medicine (FAA Aviation Medical Examine), and occupational medicine.
  • Must be comfortable performing low-volume surgery in an isolated setting.


EDUCATION:

  • MD or DO degree
  • Board certification as family practitioner
  • Current U.S. physician license.
  • Proof of eligibility for employment in the US
  • ATLS and ACLS certification
  • Continuing Medical Education that documents current and ongoing training in Family Practice and/or General Surgery through participation in workshops, seminars, etc.

 

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be flexible and willing to assume many responsibilities beyond the usual scope of a family practitioner in providing basic surgery services in the event that staff general surgeon is absent.

Medical Technologist (Full Time/ Unaccompanied)

 

Responsibilities:

The Laboratory Medical Technologist is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the collection of laboratory specimens and performance of diagnostic and screening tests. The Laboratory Technologist provides patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients in the hospital and clinic departments on a twenty-four hour basis. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Supports the Hospital and Organization mission and vision. Utilizes knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity in the provision of patient care.

 

Major Duties/ Essential Functions:

  • Collects patient specimens, or instructs patient in the proper collection of a specimen, for laboratory testing. Process specimens for testing.
  • Performs phlebotomy on both adult and pediatric patients.
  • Prepares specimens for shipment to reference laboratory employing appropriate methods for packaging potential infectious or hazardous materials.
  • Works with other laboratory staff members in all areas of the laboratory, or as assigned, to complete patient specimen analysis.
  • Performs a variety of assays on human, veterinary and environmental specimens with little or no supervision.
  • Serves to the cover laboratory needs outside of routine hours by sharing on-call duties with other Laboratory Technologists.
  • Performs quality control procedures, ensuring validity and accuracy of test results.
  • Performs calibration, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments.

Job Knowledge:

  • Ability to apply Quality Control concepts and principles in the critical evaluation of testing results to ensure accuracy and quality of testing.
  • Ability to evaluate patient testing results in view of known patient diagnostic information to identify erratic or illogical results requiring validation prior to reporting.
  • Capable of operating highly technical instrumentation and performing high complexity testing, as defined by CLIA 88’, with precision and accuracy.
  • Requires knowledge and analytic abilities to perform highly complex testing, to interpret findings, perform calculations, calibrate instrumentation and review testing performed by other technologists.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to implement the requirements for Laboratory Accreditation.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years recent experience as a generalist performing laboratory testing in all specialties of the laboratory.
  • Education and training suitable to meet CLIA 88 requirements for highly complex testing.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills. Must have proficient command of the English language.
  • Must possess visual acuity to distinguish fine gradiations of color and/or texture and manual dexterity sufficient to work with delicate instrumentation.
  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field with an internship in an approved clinical laboratory training program, or equivalent.
  • Current certification with a nationally recognized registry such as MT(ASCP), CLS(NCA) or MT(HEW). Additional certifications are desirable.

Chief Medical Officer (Full Time/Accompanied)

 

Responsibilities:

Directly reports to the Community Services DPM with additional administrative accountability to the Hospital Administrator. Responsible for clinical oversight and direction regarding the planning, scope, quality, and provision of all medical and dental services at US Army Kwajalein Atoll. Assumes leadership role in providing effective and efficient delivery of quality medical care consistent with the mission and core values of Kwajalein Hospital. Provides a framework for the establishment, development and measurement of quality care. This position is instrumental in promoting the health, safety, and quality of life for USAKA patients, residents, and workers. The CMO additionally provides clinical care to outpatients, inpatients, and emergency patients.

 

MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Works with hospital administrator, KRS leadership, and USAKA leadership to identify and manage matters
  • Works with hospital administrator and Community Services DPM to develop and adhere to department budgets.
  • Serves as medical administrative interface internally with clinical staff and externally with KRS, USAKA, and other organizations. Facilitates communications among parties and assists with improving understanding and perceptions of all participants. Serves as a clinical voice with administration representing the concerns and opinions of practitioners while helping the medical staff to understand the rationale for administrative decisions.
  • Supervises and performs performance evaluations on physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, CRNA, and other ancillary medical personnel.
  • Coordinates clinical education and communication to physicians and other medical/dental staff.
  • Chairs or serves on department committees as needed. Assigns committee chairpersons as needed.
  • Responds to complaints, clinical issues, utilization review and any quality of care inquiries on behalf of Kwajalein Hospital, KRS, and USAKA.
  • Provides services to outpatients and employees including diagnostic evaluation, patient treatment, recovery, and health maintenance program based on current accepted practices.
  • Provides emergency medical services including evaluation, stabilization, and management of patients.
  • Provides on-call and after-hours physician coverage on a rotating basis and responds in timely and courteous manner.
  • Operates under the general guidelines of Kwajalein Hospital policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Maintains all necessary licensure and abides by Kwajalein Hospital bylaws, policies, and procedures as well as USAKA rules and regulations.
  • Serves as administrative and clinical interface with administrators and clinicians of the Marshall Islands Ministry of Health. Promotes communication and collaboration to advance the health of Marshallese patients and communities within the limits of the KRS work statement.
  • Performs other duties as required in accordance with privileges granted by the Kwajalein Hospital Credentials Committee and assumes other responsibilities and duties as assigned by Community Services DPM.

Pharmacist (Full Time/ Unaccompanied)


Responsibilities:
Directly reports to the Chief Medical Officer with additional administrative accountability to the Hospital Administrator. Assesses, evaluates and manages medication therapies for patients across the age spectrum for various medical problems on an outpatient, emergent basis, and hospitalized care. Doctorate degreed practitioners may be credentialed for independent prescriptive authority in accordance with regulations in their state of licensure. Assists all practitioners with medication information. Participates as a member in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee, and may sit on other healthcare, policy, and administrative committees as determined by CMO or Hospital Administrator. Maintains unsupervised key assess to the Department of Pharmacy and all stocked medications, and is the immediate supervisor for all personnel with job access to the pharmacy. Maintains healthcare formulary, formulary stock, prescription records, and is finally responsible for all legend and controlled medications within USAKA. The Pharmacist has ultimate responsibility for compliance with all regulations (DEA, FDA, DoD, and Army) governing medication procurement, storage, distribution and use within USAKA.
MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Reviews and updates departmental directives and supervising policies for medication procurement, storage, distribution and use within USAKA to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Oversees and responds to quarterly audit of controlled medications per PWS requirements and Kwajalein Hospital protocols.
• Maintains regulatory required records for procurement, storage, distribution and use of all legend and controlled medications within USAKA.
• Inspects medication stock and medication use outside of the Department of Pharmacy per departmental directives.
• Reports all instances of regulatory non-compliance to the CMO.
• Oversees medication ordering to maintain appropriate stock levels while not exceeding budget limits.
• Oversees expired medication returns to maximize credit value.
• Performs medication reconciliation upon entry and discharge from the acute care setting.
• Acts as preceptor pharmacy students if and when preceptorships are scheduled.

EDUCATION:
• Graduate of accredited Bachelor or Doctor of Pharmacy training program. PharmD is preferred.
• Continuing Pharmacy Education that documents current and ongoing training in Pharmaceutical Care through participation in workshops, seminars, etc.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current U.S. license and registration to practice pharmacy in any state.
• Must be flexible and willing to assume responsibilities for patient care needs in a remote setting utilizing telephone contact with primary care providers.
• Must be capable of independent assessment and intervention when working at remote sites.

Imaging Technologist (Full Time/ Unaccompanied)

Responsibilities:
Incumbent, under supervision of Imaging Supervisor, collaborates with physicians and nursing to coordinate imaging services, prepares patient and performs appropriate diagnostic imaging procedures. Incumbent creates, updates and maintains appropriate patient and departmental records. Responsible for operating and maintaining diagnostic equipment.

MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

General
• Consistently performs duties in compliance with established departmental, KRS, and USAKA policies and procedures.
• Completes position competencies for assigned imaging modalities.
• Participates in all fire safety, infection control and other mandatory training.
• Ensures open lines of communication are maintained among physicians, peers, and others.
• Assist supervisor in assessment and communication of departmental need for equipment and supplies.

Operational
• Collaborate patient scheduling plans with physician/nursing staff; coordinate and schedule patients for treatment; assess patient, use proper patient positioning to obtain optimal images.
• Evaluate previous studies for comparison.
• Perform technical phases of radiographic procedures including fluoroscopy, portable and operating room.
• Perform and serve as lead resource for mammography procedures, ensuring program compliance with ACR and FDA standards.
• Perform procedures while taking precautions against unsafe exposure to patient, self or others; ensure all exposures are required. Identify and promptly address unsafe practices and other safety issues in the department. Ensure all appropriate PPE is available.
• Develop digital images, create, update and maintain patient data files; ensure transmission of images to consultant radiologists and manage diagnostic evaluation reports.
• Provide written and verbal reports to physicians recognizing cases requiring immediate attention.
• Interface with consultant radiologists to avoid misinterpretation of procedures and reports.
• Interface with clinic staff, technical support at McKesson and KRS IT for regular software upgrades, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Responsible for imaging patient records; creates and maintains files, audits files for completion, legibility and appropriate charging

Requirements:
JOB KNOWLEDGE:

• Must be familiar with all standard radiographic procedures including fluoroscopy, portable and operating room. (FDA-MQSA)
• Must be familiar with duties required for mammography quality control and with the American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation process.
• Possess technical ability to obtain optimal images

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Provides after-hours on-call response to emergency calls requiring imaging skills.
• Capable of functioning independently and proven ability in exercising independent judgment.
• Other skills include consultation skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities, public speaking skills, proficiency with computer system.
• BLS certification

EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 2 years recent imaging practical experience in a hospital environment.
• Recent mammography experience required.

EDUCATION:
• Must be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with advanced certification in Mammography.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience with digital acquisition and transmission of images preferred.
• Experience in or desire to learn diagnostic ultrasound preferable.
• Demonstrated knowledge of imaging practices

POSITION GOAL:
A Registered Nurse who is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. • Serves as a consistent 12 hour rotating nursing staff member in the Inpatient and Outpatient Departments. Should be able to assume the nursing care of critically ill patients that present to both the Inpatient and Outpatient Departments.

Responsibilities:
Under the Guidance of the Chief Medical Officer and Hospital Administrator, the Director of Nursing Services is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients in the Hospital and Clinic areas. Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the overall clinical nursing practice and administrative activities, including assisting with fiscal, material and human resource management. Responsibilities:
Incumbent, under supervision of CMO and Hospital Administrator, is directly responsible for all phases of imaging diagnostic procedural support and accreditation and contract compliance. JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Directly reports to the Chief Medical Officer with additional administrative accountability to the Hospital Administrator. Provides healthcare services to patients presenting to the hospital (in- and outpatient) for family practice and emergency services.
